HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Hope you had a great Christmas and New Year, and are preparing yourself for 2008! GUSA Ball, Pub Golf, Tour, Meet the Old Gang, Club Dinner … oh yea and lots of HOCKEY!!

TOUR UPDATE: Tour shenanigans this year will be taking place in DUBLIN!!! Make sure you are there, we guarantee you will not regret it 31st March – 4th April!!

Callea         Salou        !  TOUR !     Dublin          Holland

Usually bored at Easter? Fed up with making small talk around a Sunday Roast? Or just want the most fun you will ever have in your whole life?

Then Tour is for you . . .

Widely described as the best week of your life, tour is probably the most fun you can have without wrestling naked in a pool of baby oil with Jessica Alba. Or Hugh Grant. Whatever floats your boat. Though the week is based around hockey, you will probably find it hard to make time for it, between meeting loads of new people, learning new drinking games and perfecting those fancy dress costumes.  In recent years the club has ventured to Dublin, Holland and even as far as Spain! From the moment you board the coach, pile onto the ferry and eventually rock up to your hotel, you will be in the company of thousands of other students all from different unis, all of whom are up for just as much of a laugh as you! Integral to the tour are Glasgow’s signature tour shirts and visors, with the obligatory crude slogan across the front and tour name on the back.  Dreaded by many, the tour name, is not chosen by consensus but is the sole responsibility of the tour organiser. Some have subtle meanings that take some thinking about, and others are just plain rude!

Also essential to the kit are deodorant (the shirts get pretty rancid after a while), at least 5 fancy dress outfits and a good memory of where the hotel is! Every night is themed differently, and in fine GUHC tradition you are expected to rise to the occasion, whether it be children’s tv charcters, Baywatch, 80’s or School Disco. There is also time for relaxing, chilling out at the beach or even a cultural visit to the nearby city. That is if you can be bothered to get out of bed. Having encouraged a few sportsmen and women from other clubs to join us on the BEST Glasgow Uni tour, the current social committee have big plans for the coming tour, trying to involve fellow clubs to join us on our crusade of fun.

For the more serious among you, Tour is organised by the social secretaries and supervised by senior members of the club. We usually book through professional companies that specialise in organising several tours every year. They provide a large number of sensible (and sober) support staff that are trained to deal with any problems that occur e.g medical emergencies, thefts etc. For more info check out http://www.ilovetour.co.uk/  If you want to know some of the more explicit banter, visit the Forum
