The Glasgow University Womens 1st XI pride themselves on being an enthusiastic, fun-filled yet competitive squad. Over the recent years we have competed in the national leagues of Scotland. Last season, we competed in the National 3 division on weekends were we came up against a range of different club and university teams from all over Scotland. After a gruelling season which consisted of intense rivalries and battling horrendous weather conditions, our team was placed admirably in 6th place. With the new season of 2010/2011 approaching our goal as a squad is to challenge our placing from last year and move higher up in the table rankings.

On Wednesday afternoons, the 1st XI also competes in Division 1A of the Scottish Conference in the BUCs leagues. This league sparks competition between us and other universities in Scotland such as Edinburgh and Aberdeen University. Last season we came 3rd in this league which enabled us to be drawn against the University of Liverpool in the BUCs trophy. This gave our team the opportunity to travel to Liverpool and play a very experienced side in a tough game of hockey. Not only this, but we all enjoyed the roadtrip there and back as it provided us with some quality bonding time as a squad.

The 1st XI are a competitive squad who have a drive to win and succeed which requires a high level of commitment from all players. At the same time we are also a very sociable team who enjoy getting involved with the social aspect of the club by attending social nights out and holding team bonding exercises.

The GUWHC 2nd XI is a competitive yet highly enjoyable team to be involved in.
We compete in BUCS division 3A on a Wednesday afternoon against universities in Scotland, including teams from Edinburgh, Dundee and Stirling. On Saturdays, we play in West District Division 1, versus teams in and around Glasgow.
After a good start to the 09-10 season, our team failed to build the success of the previous year, finishing mid-table in both leagues. This season, we aim to push this position higher!
The 2nd XI is closely linked to the 1st XI, in that if individual players are performing to a consistently high standard, they may get the opportunity to play with the 1st team.
We are a very sociable team who enjoy getting together as a squad, as well as getting involved with the social nights out of the club as a whole.

The 3rd XI is the ideal team for those wanting to have some fun playing hockey and get fully involved in the social side of uni! We play Wednesday matches in Scottish Conference Tier 5 and had an impressive performance last year narrowly missing out on promotion due to goal difference. Our Saturday matches are played against other teams around Glasgow in West District 3 league. After being promoted last year we had a challenging season but managed to step up and finish in a mid league position which we want to improve on next year. We are a close, social team with regular team nights out after matches, ice skating trips at christmas or even just meeting for lunch so you'll really feel bonded with the whole team.

The brand-new-super-shiny womens 4th XI team was only recently formed in 2009. In addition to weekly training and fitness sessions, we play in a 6-a-side recreational league on a Monday night.  Rec is an incredibly light hearted atmosphere where our pre-game talks usually consist of finding out the latest chat - theres always a good story or two from the previous week that gets shared here!!  We also play friendly games against other Glasgow based teams every fortnight, in this last season we have managed to get some really good wins in these games. We have seen individual skill level improve, some brilliant team performances and the scoring of some fantastic goals; and its a place where players who are seen to excel can then push up into the 3s.
