NEW MEMBERS 07/08 – WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR PLAYERS FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON!!!! This page is for all you budding hockey players who are interested joining the club for the coming season. Below are a few pointers about getting involved, and the events going on during Freshers week and beyond . . . 1. Get Stuck In - the only way you will ever find out how fun the hockey club can be is to come down and get involved. It is very tempting to stay at halls with your mates and ignore all the cool stuff going on but you will always regret it if you don’t. It is very scary meeting a group of people that you don’t know, but remember we have all been there and will do our very best to make sure you feel welcome!. Besides if you like sport, but are a bit nervous about making friends, where else are you going to find loads of guys in the same boat as you? Catch my drift . . . 2. Hockey is for Everyone - Anyone can join the club. Whether you are a pro, novice or just a bit rusty, curious about a new sport, or just want some social banter, you are welcome at the club. At 3. Socials and Drop In Sessions – During Freshers week there will be numerous opportunities to meet and chat to members of the club, and show off your hockey skills on the pitch, or not as the case may be! If you were too hung over to get out of bed during Freshers week, DON’T WORRY!! There are still plenty of opportunities to meet members and get involved. Freshers Week: During the week you will see lots of guys running around in yellow t-shirts with GUSA (Glasgow University Sports Association) written on them. These are Sports helpers and if you ask to chat to a hockey club member you will get pointed in the right direction. This is the best way to get the full low down on the club. Some other great opportunities are · GUSA Party - This is on the Wednesday evening in the GUU and is always the best night of the week. This year’s theme is Pirates of the · Sports Fayre - Held over 2 days, this is a chance for you to check out all the sports Glasgow Uni has to offer. Feel free to come on over for a chat and to learn a little more about the best sports club at Glasgow Uni. · Drop in session - Finally! An opportunity to play some actual hockey, whether this means picking up a stick for the first time or honing your skills on our shiny new pitch at Garscube. Use the Contacts page to find directions to our pitch at Garscube. Start of Term: · Meet the Gang - The first proper social of the year, where Men, Women and New members come together for a big bonding session, involving some ‘interesting’ games, lots of alcohol and some truly awful dancing. · Russells- our after match haunt to which we retire after playing, for food, drink, and zip-boing-bounce. If you have somehow managed to miss all the above opportunities to experience the club, please come down and introduce yourself to the gang. After Christmas: · Training – feel free to come down to training
Last year’s Freshers, at the Freshers vs. OAP’s Grudge Match. Ugly looking lot. | |
